Hit it off: To form an immediate, positive connection with someone;to quickly become good friends with someone. As in I was so glad that our parents hit it off. In the 17th century this phrase was put simply as hit it, the adverb off being added only in the mid-1800s.

中文释义: Hit it off中的it是个虚词,没有明确的意思,只是用来填充受词位置。这个短语通常表示初次见面的两个人彼此看得顺眼,十分投缘。例句:Bella and Tom met at a party last week and hit it off.(贝拉和汤姆在上周的聚会上认识的,俩人很投缘)。另外引申几个和hit有关的俚语短语:Hit on someone(勾搭某人);Hit on sth(突然想到某事);Hit the light(开灯)
