Dating from the early nineteenth century, this cliché uses “trick” in the sense of an accomplishment. As in Add some pepper to the sauce and that should do the trick.
中文释义：我们都知道，trick的意思是“诡计，花招”，比如，在西方的万圣节，孩子们会挨家挨户讨糖果，口中念着一句：“trick or treat”（不给糖就捣蛋）。那么“do the trick”，是不是“耍把戏、耍花招”的意思呢？可不要翻译成“耍把戏”。do the trick表示取得想要的成果，获得成功的窍门，奏效的意思。例句：Singing makes me feel happy, it always does the trick.（唱歌使我感到快乐，总是很奏效。）
