中文释义：speak of 是指“说到、论及”，而 devil 则是“恶魔”；十八世纪初有一种迷信的说法："Speak of the devil and he's sure to appear.” 只要你说到魔鬼，魔鬼就一定会现身。因此引伸出”说到某人，某人就出现“的意思，相当于中文里面的”说曹操，曹操到“。另外"talk to the devil"也是这个意思。例句：Did you hear what happened to Anna yesterday - oh, speak of the devil, here she is.（你听说安娜昨天出的那件事了吗——说曹操，曹操就到了。）
