Every now and then: Once in a while; at intervals. Something happens on some occasions rather than all the time. If you do something from time to time, you do it occasionally but not regularly. When a person does not do something regularly, they can use this phrase to imply once in a while.
As in Every now and then I long for a piece of chocolate.
